If you choose to connect your cPanel hosted email to an email client such as Outlook, Mac Mail or an email phone app you may need the settings below if the automatic setup fails.
Things to keep in mind:
- We cannot fully support 3rd party software or take the responsibility of there support. Please use the vendors resources to determine where settings might be located or how to add/remove accounts.
- In reading this information substitute "yourDomain.com" for your own email address domain name.
- We enforce that connections are made using the secure settings only. This involves choose SSL/TLS see below. Although not an issue for modern device, TLS 1.2 or newer is required to connect (Protocol Support).
- Connecting incorrectly or with a wrong password can lead to our security firewall blocking your IP address. You can check your webpage or Webmail address (webmail.yourDomain.com) to check if you are blocked and use the self-unblocking Google reCaptcha to remove the block. If still unsure, see our support article I cannot connect to my website or email.
- A simple way to test your username and password is to use your Webmail access, this eliminates the need for the additional settings to determine if you know your password.
- You can view your specific connection settings by login into cPanel or Webmail. Below is general guidance for cPanel email users.
Secure IMAP Settings
IMAP is the current standard for connecting to emails but note that the emails are stored against your hosting space. As time progresses we recommend cleaning out your Sent, Spam or Trash folders or archiving them. See our article How to Clear Space in Your Email Account to learn how to clean up your email mailboxes.
Account Type | IMAP |
Incoming Server | mail.yourDomain.com |
Outgoing (SMTP) Server | mail.yourDomain.com |
Username | Full email address (example: user@yourDomain.com) |
Password | As set in your cpanel |
Outgoing email server authentication | Required, use the same username and password as your incoming mail server. |
Incoming Port | 993 (SSL or SSL/TLS security type) |
Outgoing (SMTP) Port | 465 (SSL or SSL/TLS security type) |
Other IMAP Settings | Depending on the email client or app you may need to subscribe to additional folders. For example your Sent folder or Trash folder. Each device will have it's own way to access these settings refer to it's documentation or software support site on instructions on subscribing to IMAP folders. |
*An alternative hostname is your server name but we recommend always using your mail.yourDomain.com first. To find your server name log into cPanel > Server Information > look for server name and add .osmhost.com for the full server name. You can access cPanel using your support account at https://myhelpportal.com head to Services > My Services > click on your service > log into cPanel.
- Example server name "host30.osmhost.com".
